Old School Jukebox in Sacramento

Old Sacramento

I always loved jukeboxes.  When I was growing up they were in all the bars and even in restaurants.  The music was great but it was the neon the made me stare.

I just loved them.

Today we have an article in the Sacramento Press about the finest looking old school jukebox I have seen.  This thing is just badass bad.

Thanks @SacramentoPress for helping me daydream

Order a beer and throw a quarter in the box.  Well, in some places you can still experience that.

This sweet machine is in the Pre-Flite Lounge in downtown Sacramento.  It’s kind of a funky place where folks would spend some time waiting for a bus or taxi ride out to the airport.  Or, like me and a friend I had back in the 70s, just sit and drink.

Back then I was all about quality scotch on the rocks.

Gave that up a long time ago, but I still love their jukebox.

It’s called a R-82 by customers.  It spins old time vinyl 45’s.  The way it should be.

“From Fats Domino to Duke Ellington. Willie Nelson singing Blue Skies and Buck Owen’s Crying Time are also on the jukebox play list, and a bargain at 10 songs for a dollar.”  Nice!!!

The Hideaway in Sacramento is some neo-hipster joint with a “jukebox”  but it plays CDs/DVDs.  That ain’t a jukebox.  I won’t even show you the pic, but if you insist it’s in the Sacramento Press article.

The Backdoor Lounge is an old school bar in Old Sacramento.  Been there forever and I used to hang out sometimes.  Now they have a box playing CD’s.  Just not the same folks.

By the way, here is a nice article giving tips to Sacramento residents on places for the in-crowd locals to visit in Old Sacramento.  Dives, speakeasies, historic sites and more.  Nice.

Old school jukeboxes are art.  Neon lighting is nearly a lost art.  And vinyl records are almost extinct.  Lots of CD boxes now, some even with neon-lite.  OK, but not the real deal.

Want to see and hear the real thing in action???  Take your ass down to the Pre-Flite lounge and say thanks @SacramentoPress.
