Make a bicycle out of bamboo? Are you crazy?
Well, a California bike builder, Craig Calfee of Calfee Designs, makes beautiful bamboo bicycles by hand. Order one quick because this guys shop is on San Andreas Boulevard. Any connection to the earthquake fault?? Hmmmm…..

Calfee makes bikes from carbon as well, including a racer for Greg LeMond. Nice looking cycles even without a motor!
These are not cheap frames. Calfee builds high-end bicycles and frames list for $1,700 to $4,100+ and complete bicycles for $7,000 and up. Bamboo bicycles frames are in the $2,700 range.

These bikes are hand-built using organic, locally grown bamboo. Definitely some skilled craftsmen.
