2013 Peach Wars

Spectacular San Francisco Famous Downtown Land...

Spectacular San Francisco Famous Downtown Landmarks Cityscape (Photo credit: davidyuweb)

Growing up in Sacramento we would wait all year for the white peaches to come out for pickin.

The white peaches most of you yellow hard peach eating folks say??

Yes, white peaches.  The softest yet firm white flesh is sweeter and juicier than any yellow peach you have eaten.

But, being near to the San Francisco Bay area I also love Frog Hollow Farms and I  wait for the annual peach wars.

O’Henrys vs the Cal Reds.  each year who will win.  Well try some of each and pick a winner!

And while you are at it taste their baked goods!  Excellent turnovers even the non-fruit versions like the ham & cheese.

And in Sacramento on a warm summer evening indulge in the Fresh Peach ice Cream at Gunthers Ice Cream Shop since 1940

Liberty Vintage Motorcycles

My new favorite television show features the Liberty Vintage motorcycle shop in Philadelphia.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yDNkZ7rG9m0&feature=player_embedded

The show is called Philly Throttle and it’s on the Discovery Channel on Friday nights.

Why do I like it?

It’s on the Discovery Channel and comes across fairly real. I still mostly eyeball Discovery, the History Channel, sports and news.  I like real shit and when a show purported to be real seems like it’s not (a few other motorcycle shows etc) they become my “unfavorites”

I don’t Facebook but here it is.

Check out Philly Throttle, you might like it.

Biker Slang So You Can Get Your Ass Kicked

Sure, be a douche like the TV bikers and sling the biker slang.  Do yourself a favor.  Talk the talk in front of your bathroom mirror.  Not out on the street where your pretend wanna be ass could get hurt.

And leave your homemade colors at home. Where you should also be,.

But if you want to learn the biker lingo for some reason start with this Squidoo article.

Or just make up your own and protect your back warmer (??)

Road To Revenge—Motorcycle Build-Off

So we have yet another motorcycle build off with Senior trying to show he is better than his son, Junior.  The Teutuls.  American Chopper that later became named other titles for television as Dad later fired his son, and then pretended Junior just didn’t come to work one day.

Then Dad sued his son and pretended that he did not.  And it all played out on television for the last decade on he Discovery Channel.

And last year they had the build-off to see who could build the better bike in the midst of Senior vs Junior which was actually the name of the show for a while.

I used to like the show, I even liked some of their bikes, but it was about the relationships in the family.  It was that strange.  In fact it was so strange who do you add to the bike build off to jazz it up boys & girls?  Jesse James you say?  Really?  The Bad Boy of bike building.  Well, maybe he once was.  He started TV bike building.  And then he did all of his Hollywood things.

Last year, as you know, Junior won.  Jesse was second and Senior???  He came in about #98 in a  man competition.  Everyone else got like 250,000 votes.  Senior got one vote.  He built a tank.  Not a car, not a bike, a tank on a track.  It was an interesting  vehicle.  It was not a motorcycle and he should have been disqualified.

This year who wins?  Jesse still talks shit.  Senior still talks about what a dick his son is.  Junior is still pretty quiet but he gets involved in some of the arguments this time.  And who do you add to Jazz it up?  Gas Monkey Garage.  They have talked on the show that they build bikes and they worked on one once.  They are pretty funny.

Jesse James blows off the bike building deadline.  They give him an extra two weeks.  Senior enjoyed the extra two weeks and put in the full 14 days on his bike.  Junior didn’t seem surprised.  Gas Monkey went crazy and wanted Jesse disqualified.

Then Jesse blew off the two-week extension and four weeks AFTER the extension was over….Jesse’s bike still was not finished.  Did not run.  Or something.  So the question in Vegas was “Is Jesse here”  “Is JJ’s bike here?”  “Does it run?”

Yes, he was here in the gambling haven.  Yes his bike was here.  Yes, his bike runs.  The question??  Should Jesse be disqualified?  They decide to let the other builders determine Jesse James’ fate.  Of course, for the sake of TV they all agree to let him compete.  It has always been the way builders in the real Biker-Build-Off series came down with folks who were late.  The bike is the important thing and the bike didn’t do anything wrong so let the competition continue.

Who won?  Junior of course.  Second, Gas Monkey Garage.  Third, Jesse.  98th, Senior.  The same one guy from last year also voted for Senior this year.

Next year?  Well. American Chopper, the Senior vs Junior show this season, will not be back next year.  On the Discovery Channel.

Will Jesse’s show still be on TV?  Probably not. And Gas Monkey?  Probably will.

Another build off between this peeps?  I hope not.

Congratulations Junior, nice bike.  And Gas Monkey, my choice this year.  I’m ok with Junior winning but I liked the Dallas bike better.

The 2013 Sacramento Bacon Fest

The 2013 Sacramento Bacon Fest is coming up in January.

How can anyone not like bacon?  It legitimately adds the post flavor to a dish than any other single ingredient.  I don’t care….salt, sugar, just nothing ramps the flavor level like good old pork fat!

When:                       January 20th to January 27th, 2013

Where:                     Various Sacramento locations

How can a Bacon Festival last for a whole dang week?  By having a lot of different activities including a Chef’s Challenge, a big Opening Night Party, a Kid’s Challenge, events and dinners and laughably the best activity of the week:   the 2nd Annual Kevin Bacon Tribute Night

Most of the events are free and even those that have a charge are inexpensive enough that most folks can attend.

2012/2013 Sacramento Kings Season and the NBA

Special logo marking the Kings' 20th anniversa...

Special logo marking the Kings’ 20th anniversary in Sacramento (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

This post will cover the 2012/2013 season of the Sacramento Kings, and the rest of the NBA and maybe even some league issues.

The post covering the summer and the Pre-season of the Sacramento Kings can be found HERE.

The Kings opened their season with a three game road trip and lost every game, looking bad in one of those games.

They returned to Sacramento and won their home opener.  They won their 2nd game at home and are now 2-3 and are now sitting in the middle of their conference while early on the Los Angeles Lakers are shocking their fans by being firmly in last place with only five games played.

In the meantime, the Kings are in the rumor section once again about a possible move.

The rumor?  Well, it is a warmed over one from this summer when the Kings were said to be moving to Virginia Beach.  Everyone denied it and the city held their public meeting about the proposed Virginia Beach Arena without mentioning Sacramento or the Kings.

Since then there have been more rumors including yesterday and todays rumors that the ownership of the Sacramento Kings , the Maloof family, did indeed have meetings with the Virginia Governor about moving their team, the current Sacramento Kings, to Virginia Beach.

Citing anonymous sources, the Virginian-Pilot newspaper reported Thursday that a representative of the Sacramento Kings met recently with the Virginia governor about the possibility of moving the team to Virginia Beach

If true, not only were the fans in both cities lied to, but meetings between the Maloofs and Virginia’s Governor not only occurred but occurred around the time that the Maloof’s pulled the plug on a new Arena in Sacramento.  The Maloof’s pulled out of their quasi-agreement with Sacramento saying the financials “didn’t pencil out” but did not make any offer to work things out with the City that has supported them for so many years.

Anyway…check out the article here.

November 11th:
Happy Veteran’s Day!!
The Kings play without DeMarcus Cousins (Center) and Rookie Thomas Robinson (Forward) and the Lakers run right over them!

Both players were out because of league imposed suspensions.

The Players Association is appealing the Cousins’ suspension, saying the 2 game penalty is too severe. “The immediate goal is to get the suspension lifted” prior to the Kings game on November 14th.  Check the story out HERE.

They have Tyreke Evans on the floor but Evans just has not found his groove on Offense.  He has played very good defense, but like most of the Kings has suffered on the offensive side.

The Kings want Evans to shoot the frigging ball, but too often he is passing,  the opposite problem from his first few years in the league.  The team needs him to contribute more baskets and get to the Free Throw line more often as well.

So now the Lakers with one win move up to a tie for 3rd in the Conference and the Kings drop back down to a spot they know much too well…..last.

Robinson returns for the next game while Cousins is out for one more.

November 20th:

The Kings cannot win a game or attract fans to watch them during their worst start in 20 years..  The Kings are struggling on offense and their new defensive focus.

The fun of a 5-1 pre-season seems long past as the Kings lost heir 4th game in a row early in this 2012/13 season.  They don’t seem like a “family” that most people would want to spend Thanksgiving with, and this holiday dinner could get contentious.

The Kings play the Los Angeles Lakers in their next game so things won’t get easier fas for them.  Gobble Gobble.

DeMarcus Cousins—-December 31st:

I was going to await the New Year, but I just couldn’t…

DeMarcus.  Suspended again, this time by his own Coach for whatever was said to/about Coach in the locker room at halftime.

Fist Coach left him in the locker room after the outburst.  Then Coach suspended him and sent him home.  No one would say exactly what prompted the suspension, except DeMarcus saying he needs o learn to “keep (his) mouth shut”.  I have never seen the Kings so quiet.

But I have rarely seen the social media world so active.  Everyone wants to hate on DeMarcus.  It is so easy.  He makes it even easier.  Big.  Rich.  Young.  Sometimes foolish.  Yes, DMC…sometimes.

The suspension lasted what…..two games?  And then he was back.  No one would say why and no one would say who made the decision except it seemed as if it was definitely not the Coach.  Petrie?  Owners?  He was back with a new Agent….Fegan.  The agen who has helped many NBA players secure a trade when they wanted ou of a current situation.  Was it the agent?.

And today Ailene Voisin’s article in the Bee.  I rarely agree with Voisin.  But sometimes she provides significant depths of insight that most male writers cannot plumb.  Sometimes she surprises me.  rarely does DeMarcus surprise me.  It would surprise me if he learns to keep his mouth shut as he says he wants to do.

Now that he’s back, what do you do with DeMarcus Cousins? Coddle him? Ignore him? Trade him?

You don’t trade him. You monitor his behavior, maintain certain standards and keep a velvet hammer within reach, but you don’t trade him. The Kings’ front office folks – regardless of whether Geoff Petrie re-signs or retires – need to do their jobs and let Cousins learn how to do his.”

After you read that article and understand the importance of teaching and not trading Cousins understand this:  last night Cousins scored the first triple-double of his career helping the Kings to defeat the Boston Celtics with 12 points, 10 rebounds and ten assists while receiving the game ball from his teammates.  Cousins assisted two of his teammates to reach season highs in points and another (Salmons) to score 23 which seems like it should be a season high (!!!).

Understand this:  the last time a Kings center scored a triple double was 2007 and the last time any Kings player hit those numbers was a Kings guard in 2010.

Cousins has the talent, the body,  the ability, the desire and the youth to achieve triple doubles often and for a few more years.  He expects rebounds and wants assists and baskets come, even on a poo shooting night.

January 5th:
Why do I say don’t trade cousins?  Games like last night show that he is learning.  This would be his senior year in college.  31 points and 20 rebounds against the Raptors.
Yes, the Raptors are a bad team, but the Kings were just as bad and the game was in Toronto.
He added some steals, only 4 fouls and 4 turnovers it was a MONSTER game forr Cousins and the Kings.  Cousins helped to lead the Kings to a victoy that pulled them out of the Pacific Division basement.

Apple Loses Lawsuit vs Samsung and Motorola

English: Samsung Logo Suomi: Samsungin logo

English: Samsung Logo Suomi: Samsung logo (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

Sure Apple won that lawsuit vs Samsung here in the U.s., but in German courts??  Well, in Germany Samsung and Motorola are victorious and Apple is found to have infringed on patents held by Samsung and Motorola.

What’s more is the German ruling follows court findings in Britain and in the Netherlands taking the same positions:  Apple infringed on patents and Samsung (and Motorola) were victorious.

This is a world-wide battle so look for more.

October 22nd:

Did you see thisUK court overturns Apple victory over Samsung, ruling that Samsung is not “cool” enough to copy Apple!!??!!

Now, having lost the court verdict, Apple is requied to run advertisements on its website and in newspapers saying that Samsung did NOT COPY AppleWOW!

So here in the U.S. the courts have initially deterrmined that Samsung copied Apple and now in the UK Apple has to run apologies for saying that they did.  Amazing.

Apple has lost an appeal against a ruling in a U.K. High Court that Samsung’s Galaxy Tab does not infringe the iPad’s design. The original ruling by Judge Colin Birss said Samsung’s tablets were not cool enough to be confused with Apple’s because they lacked the “extreme simplicity” of the iPad. That ruling has now been upheld by the Court of Appeal.

The original ruling also stated that Apple must run adverts on its website and in newspaper saying Samsung did not copy the iPad. Reuters reports that the Court of Appeal’s Judge Kitchin said today the notices must be in a font size no smaller than Ariel 14.”

Stay tuned cuz they ain’t over as we all know.  The UK suit has no whee to go, that was a ruling from the high court, the top of the wig-wearing courts.

And, technically it has nothing to do with U.S. court decisions, but still…

Read all about this stumming development HERE.

October 26th:

Win or lose doesn’t seem to impact Samsung as the company records their record profits in 3Q.  Sammy is making more money than anybody every quarter.  Apple may have stock that is more valuable than anyone else, but Samsung is making money just by turning around and by getting out of bed each morning.

June 5, 2013

The ITC, (International Trade Commission), a U.S. Trade Agency ruled in favor of Samsung yesterday.  If upheld, Apple will be unable to import iPhones and a variant of the iPad into the U.S.

The ruling applies to the iPhone 4 and to the iPad 2.  Check it out

At the same time Apple announced that it would increase hiring in the U.S., adding another 50% to their Silicone Valley workforce in the San Francisco Bay Area.  Wonder what they may be planning.

Apple will appeal.
